Occupational health and safety professionals traditionally have focused on preventing and/or treating injuries and diseases arising from or related to exposures in the workplace. Research has documented that costs to employers and employees for work-related injuries and illnesses can be dwarfed by general health costs or reduced productivity related to health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, smoking, asthma, heart disease, headaches, etc. This session will focus on "Health Management" or "Wellness" issues that are important for today's ccupational health and safety professionals to know to provide for more global protection of worker health and can improve an employer's "bottom line." This seminar will focus on one facet of the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH) agency's National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA). More information can be found at: http://www.engin.umich.edu/dept/ioe/COHSE/nora09.html. This symposium is being presented as a part of the 79th Annual Michigan Safety Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Registrants of the Michigan Safety Conference can attend this symposium as a part of their Conference registration. Conference registration information can found on the web at: http://www.michsafetyconference.org/ Ergonomics Software Training Program We have scheduled a 1.5-day hands-on training program entitled: USING THE 3D STATIC STRENGTH PREDICTION PROGRAM(tm) (3DSSPP) for April 23-24, 2009. This course will provide hands-on instruction to use this software and apply it in job analysis and design situations. Biomechanics principles will be reviewed, but this should be refresher information for attendees. This is not an introductory-level course. This course will be conducted in the Duderstadt Center on the North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Attendance will be limited to ensure that all attendees will have computer access throughout the course. You can find additional information about the course at: http://www.engin.umich.edu/dept/ioe/COHSE/3D_wkshp.html.
